Football Scores in Your Local Time: How FawaNews Handles Time Zones

A 20:00 kick-off means very different things in London, Lagos and Los Angeles. FawaNews avoids the confusion by showing kick-off times in your own time zone automatically. This article explains how that works and what to check if a time ever looks wrong.

How FawaNews finds your time zone

Your browser knows which time zone your device is set to. On your first visit, FawaNews reads that setting and saves it in a small cookie. The page then refreshes once so kick-off times can be shown in your local time. On later visits the saved value is used straight away, and if you travel to a new time zone it updates the next time you open the site.

Where you will see local times

• The blue kick-off pill on match cards for games that have not started.
• The full date and time in the header of each match page, with a countdown to kick-off.
• The date used for the Today, Tomorrow and Results pages, so each list follows your own calendar day.

Why late matches can move between days

A match that kicks off late in the evening in the Americas can fall after midnight in Europe or Africa. Because the day lists follow your local calendar, that game may appear on tomorrow's page for you but on today's page for someone across the Atlantic. That is expected behaviour, not an error.

If a time looks wrong

• Check your device's time zone. If it is set incorrectly, the times on the site will be shifted too.
• Allow cookies. If your browser blocks all cookies, FawaNews cannot remember your zone and may fall back to UTC (Coordinated Universal Time).
• Reload the page. The first visit refreshes once to apply your zone, and a reload can clear up a one-off glitch.

What the cookie stores
